Blasting In Columbia Lyric

I cleaned and rebuilt my Lyric using a reproduction Edison copper model C diaphragm. It sounds pretty good, except for blasting. It's my understanding that the clamp ring needs to be just tight enough to be air tight. Anything else I need to know? Oh, I rotated the stylus, too.
Thanks!

Could be that the Model C diaphragm is too thin/compliant for a Lyric? The stacked mica must be far more rigid.

BTW, thanks for resurrecting the "Tips,Tricks..." topic! Thought it was on lock-down since the 31st, like all of us.

I don't know, Jerry. I have another one with a fancy stamped metal diaphragm that sounds great. I looked through my junk and found a mica diaphragm and I will try that tomorrow.

Well, the mica diaphragm solved my problem. You may have been correct, Jerry!

I put a copper diaphragm in a Lyric once and it did sound bad! They do not have the compliance needed to work on the Lyric spring-driven system.

Glad you got it working!
