I tried to exchange spring barrels from this Victor 2 spring motor I bought on Craigslist with the one on my VV IX. They appear to be identical but after putting
the CL motor's barrel in the IX's motor frame it won't fit. Its like the gear
is too small and does not reach the crank gear so there is no way you can wind it.
I am thinking the CL motor may be an earlier model perhaps? It does not have a
speed indicator either, although its possible its just missing. Anyways, maybe
you guys can ID the motor from the pics. Thanks!

Thanks John, I found out there are in fact 2 iterations of the 2 spring and the difference
is the "winding dog" gears. Not sure why Victor made the change but it must have been some
kind of "improvement".

If I understand your post correctly, it's kind of funny you should mention this, because recently when I was hunting around on Ebay, there was a 2 spring Vic motor for sale that had a threaded extender on it and I was curious why that would be. I think I understand now that it must have been a retrofit item for people who had situations similar to your own.

Anyway, I suppose the good news is that a part for your situation exists... of course, the challenge is locating one. However, I would think George Vollema's vic boneyard might be a great place to start.

Actually, as far as I know the slightly different "winding dog" gear (picture one) does not affect
the position of the female crank threads. My guess is that motor in your picture was modified to
extend the reach of the crank handle. At some point it was probably not in the cabinet it was designed for.
