I think that's the gear cover for any two minute Standard Model A or B.

I was incorrect! I never noticed the difference between an A and B gear cover. The little tabs where the cover screws to the deck are in a straight line for an A and offset for the B. Thanks for pointing out that detail.

Jerry, the tabs are offset for the A in the New Style cabinet as well. The in-line layout is found only on the suitcase A.

That's probably true with most New Style cabinets but not all. The only Model A Standard in my collection is an ICS machine and the tabs are in line on serial number 48207. But there are other abnormalities with ICS Standards. Interesting, isn't it?

Jerry, that is interesting, since the serial number of your example indicates it left the factory in January 1902. Since it was intended for ICS use, I wonder if Edison was shipping older inventory to them?

I suspect you are correct. I have an Edison Standard ICS with a banner decal. We usually think the banner decals were found on roughly one third of the B series machines. Correct? (I think I've mentioned this machine before but...) My ICS Standard has a Standard C mechanism in a banner case. I first thought it was a recent marriage of parts but then I noticed a sticker on the inside of the lid promoting the new mechanism and the advantages of having no endgate. The original finish on the lid perfectly matches the finish on the banner cabinet. I suspect it was another example of shipping old inventory to the ICS Company. It makes collecting interesting.
