I have acquiered a reasonably priced hmv 222, but the pick up is dead. I took it apart and saw the dezintegrated rubber suspension, also the coil does not make a complete circuit. What material is the rubber and what resistance the coil should be?

Not sure about the resistance, but I use ordinary soundbox rubber tubing to slide over the armature(?) arms, and I cut down wide red rubber bands for any flat bits I need.
I suppose the good news about the coil is they're pretty easy to find usually because after the EMI merger, HMV, Columbia and Marconiphones all tend to use the same coils in their electric pick ups.
That said, I'm actually not sure what the 222 gramophone looks like or what year/s it was manufactured, so if it's a pre-merger model it may not be so easy swapping the coil
