Interesting facts:
This Edison Standard has a Polyphone attachment. Leon Douglass patented the Polyphone in 1899, a significant improvement to the phonograph. His simple idea of using 2 reproducers to double the sound was a logical response to the low volume of wax records of the day. The Standard itself is sometimes referred to today as the "Square-top" standard. And even more specifically, the 4-clip standard - as it has four clips to secure the lid.
