This Edison Standard has a Polyphone attachment. Leon Douglass patented the Polyphone in 1899, a significant improvement to the phonograph. His simple idea of using 2 reproducers to double the sound was a logical response to the low volume of wax records of the day. The Standard itself is sometimes referred to today as the "Square-top" standard. And even more specifically, the 4-clip standard - as it has four clips to secure the lid.
If you are interested in an outstanding Polyphone cylinder for your own Polyphone, as pictured with the Edison Standard Polyphone below, check out my listing in the Music Trader section: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=44947
