Call me a Philistine, but the front is sorta-halfway-okay to me, while the top just looks like a pile of worn-out cr*p.

Looking closely at the photos, I see that the green boarders most of the lid. There also seems to be some painted (?) wood-graining on the surface, along with the decorative emblem in the center.

It's very similar to other period painted cabinets I've seen from the 1920s, which is why I wondered if this is a factory-made art case. (I confess, I haven't seen too many photos of the Brunswick art case models.) The muted colors look to be right out of that era, in any event.

I hate to admit it, I rather like it .

There was a nice looking ebony Brunswick console with painted decorations similar to this one on Denver CL a while back. I thought it looked pretty nice but too far to drive for a console..

I like it, too! It sure does look like it could be a factory job, but I've never seen one quite like this. Brunswick did offer custom finishes, one was an ebony finish with "Japanese" decorations.

I suppose if somebody had access to a number of machine catalogs, especially around 1922-3 when these types of finishes became more in vogue, we might know for sure. I have a soft spot for Brunswicks anyway!

If it isn't factory pain it's certainly a professional job- probably done to match a suite of furniture in a specific room.
