I'm listening to Radio Dismuke, which I knew through Kurt Nauck, as his auctions patronize a special program where the higlighted or solicited records in the auction are played. It is a radio station placed in Fort Woth, TX, linked to [url]http://www.early1900s.org%20network[/url]. Very nice for us gramophone record lovers.
They've played just 15 minutes ago, a song by Fletcher Henderson Orch, My Pretty Girl, which while listening I realized is the same song as Alabamy Bound, alley tune written in 1924, with music by Ray Henderson and words by Buddy DeSylva and Bud Green. You could actually sing Alabamy while listening to My Pretty Girl.
There are more cases.... get in!

It is "My Country 'tis of Thee" which is the knock-off. It was first published in 1832.
"God Save the Queen" using the same tune was first published in 1745, when the USA did not even exist.

I completely agree! Nice Bix Solos, Tram & Venuti and Steve Brown's slap bass....an outstanding record!

I'm not hearing any Bix solos. The sax work is impressive, though, and the inimitable Bill Rank has a nice trombone break there, in his delightfully quirky style.

You're correct, no Bix solos although he can certainly be heard. Another good version of this tune is done by the composer, Charles Fulcher's own orchestra.

I know Inigo was trying to start an interesting thread of songs that are just about the same if you think about it, and no real contenders have so far emerged. But one just occurred to me!

How about Leroy Anderson's The Syncopated Clock, and The Beverly Hillbillies Theme?
