Gear slipping off of shaft

This is probably a dumb question, but....
This small gear on an Edison Home suitcase model doesn't stay put and slides along the shaft. What is the best way to keep it in place?
Thanks - Mike

If this were my machine, for reliability & preventing damage to the motor I would send that driveshaft to Ron Sitko to be repaired. He has gears and tooling to press them onto the shafts, and you wouldn't have to worry about the stripped-gear mess that might result if this thing slips again while the phonograph is wound.

I've been giving bad news to other Edison Home owners today. Here's the latest dose...
The bad news is the fact that your little gear is split. That's why it spins on the shaft. The good news is the fact that Ron Sitko sells a better replacement with a set screw. It's an easy repair that you can do. One more suggestion... mark the spot on the shaft where the gear belongs and file a little flat spot so it's less likely to spin. Tighten the set screw against the flat spot.

Just wanted to post on update on this. I got a replacement gear from George Vollema and now this machine is running great. I also discovered that I had another Home that was missing the same gear. (Someone had almost completely disassembled the other machine and left it that way, and several parts have gone missing). Now I'm off to repair that one. It's like putting together a jigsaw puzzle....

Mr Vollema is a real treasure in the hobby, and you just can't beat having a properly working motor.

I'm glad it is working now. Too bad about the other machine. Some people who attempt repairs probably shouldn't.

This seems to be a somewhat common problem with Home motors. If you are good at soldering, the repair is not very difficult and the gear can be soldered in place.

Wes, How strong is the solder and repair? If the solder failed down the road or any time that gear splits doesn't the terrific power of the spring discharge immediately? I ask because the replacement gear with set screw is not very expensive. Also, my soldering skills are totally lacking.
Respectfully asked

The repair is stronger than the original, since they were just pressed on. The ones I have done have been soldered with Radio Shack solder, the repair is even stronger if hard solder is used.
They are strong enough to withstand 'overdriving' the motor by winding the spring fully and continuing to put pressure on the crank.

I guess this gear is the same as the one that splits on Standard , if so I always use these they work a treat ! I'll try and find the link where they can be bought ,
