Doesn't the finish look a bit too perfect? I'm thinking this is not the original finish. Opinions?

It's been refinished (and then some) the feet are replacements, the door knobs aren't right, the grille is missing pieces. Way overpriced in today's market- for that money better ones are available. Credenzas are desirable but far from rare.

It's tough to tell from the photos but I'd lean towards the opinion that it's been refinished. It should have massive ball feet under the main body of the cabinet. A good Credenza is a wonderful machine for playing 78's. It's one machine that I would personally want to listen to before buying or have a very knowledgeable collector inspect. Also, for lifting, take the entire offensive line from your local high school for the job. Jerry

Yeah, I did notice the knobs... but missed the feet. (Still learning this stuff, ya know?) The feet are more squat and pancake shaped, right?

I thought it also looked a bit too fresh, as well, (but I am no expert in the area of refinishing). :rose:

The original finish still shows on the picture of the back- a medium dark slightly reddish brown/

Perfect?

PERFECT???!!!

The Credenza was originally made in both mahogany and walnut. The mahogany is generally found in a dark "English brown" finish, sometimes in a slightly lighter finish, always with a filled grain and quite glossy. When veneered with walnut these machines were offered with a rather glossy "blended antique" finish, as well as both dark and light dull "dusty antique" finishes. I've not seen any listings of these finihes as options, and suspect that the offered finish changed with fashion over the several year production of this model.

Did all Credenzas have the same door knobs? The ones on mine look ok but I am pretty sure they are wrong, they are smooth and elliptical like little half-eggs. Anybody got a good pic that shows the correct ones up close, I think the smaller one I found loose in the cabinet may be it. It's the size of the usual nickle-plated Victor knobs but it is bronze-ish with a simple round design on the face. Thanks!

That second knob you mention is the correct sort- Victor started using them on some of the period style cases in the 20's and carried them over to the Orthophonic line/
