Does anyone have info on these unusual records? They are grooved like their 78 counterparts, and I think would play on the correct player. They are one sided, and have paper labels. They are 3".

I can't say for sure, but maybe they were given away as 'promotional gifts' - like Imperial's were over here in the UK ?

Do they play at 78rpm, and are they made of shellac or something else?

These records appear to be made of same material as a regular 78. They are grooved and I have not been able to play them, either due to size (shuts off my player if too close to center), or the arm on my Victor is too heavy. Either way, I haven't been able to play them, but I think they would play. The grooves on each are different. I'd like to sell them, but don't know value or history. I appreciate all the comments.

I remember in late 70's early 80's, seeing something similar to bubble gum cards (I think they were called Chew-Bops?) which had miniature records instead of cards. The ones shown here probably predate that by many years.

Just looked on the google - it was spelled Chu-Bops, and looks like the miniature records were stuff from that era (70's-80's).

I don't think these would run at 78rpm, as there would not be enough distance in the groove to fit the song. Given the vintage and the size, I would guess they would run more at 16rpm. There were players that ran at that speed for spoken word transcription disks.
