Hi folks, I'm a newbie to the site and have been enjoying the threads regarding oddball pressings, labels, etc. so I thought I'd share this one. It's Japanese Victor JA-551 (American Victor 25060), recorded in 1934, of Rube Bloom's "Penthouse Romance". What's odd is that it's stamped take 2. None of the discographies I have mention a take 2 as having been recorded, much less released. However, not all of the discogs I own are the most recent editions. I would welcome any additonal info or thoughts. Thanks.

Steve

Chester, sorry I can't help you with your question about take 2, but was wondering about the Japanese writing and the record being "Japanese Victor". Would this record have been produced in Japan, or was it made in America targeted for Japanese audiences?

According to DAHR, Take 2 was the issued take; Take 1 was marked "Destroy". https://adp.library.ucsb.edu/index.php/ ... se_romance

Edit: The DAHR entry indicates that this was released as Victor 25060, which is also referenced on the label of the Japanese Victor issue.

That contradicts both "Jazz Records" and "The Victor Master Book, Vol. 2" by Rust. Unfortunately, I don't own a domestic U.S. pressing of it. Perhaps someone out there has one and could shed some light?
