Rexine questions

Hi all,

I have two questions regarding rexine for a decca junior that I’m fiddling with:
Can anyone recommend a product that is good for filling in reasonably large (say an inch or so squared) areas of missing/torn-off rexine? (My current plan is, after some sanding, using leather filler in said torn off areas and then emulating the texture of the surviving rexine by lightly pressing some [yet to be found] thing into said leather filler before it goes off. It’s a black case so after some shoe polish I don’t see why the result wouldn’t be reasonably seemless. But then again, i’ve never attempted this before so who knows? Not I.) I’d love to hear thoughts and/or other suggested methods or products.

Second question: Does anyone know where one can buy sheets/rolls of rexine or a suitably similar material?

Thanks

Search amazon.com for Tolex.

With great respect, Tolex is too thick for this job, as the Decca Junior is covered in a very thin material. (I have one).
I would try to find a piece of the material that can be cut off, possibly under the motor board. Fill in the missing patch with black acrylic artists paint, and when nearly dry, press the patterned side of the cut off piece into the paint. Any paint that squeezes out can be carefully removed with a sharp blade. If you do manage to find some spare removeable material, don't be tempted to patch the hole with it, that looks terrible! If you can't find any spare material, send me a PM, and I'll post a bit of original black to you.

I've been wanting to recover a portable phonograph for a while, and did some research into "sturdite." It seems to be the closest thing to rexine I could find (nb, I haven't ordered any yet)

Does anyone have experience with this?

I have disguised missing patches of case covering by filling the area level and then covering it with a replica period luggage label. These can be bought on eBay.

A nice and elegant solution. Pity it can't be done in the corners!
