What am I doing wrong with my Edison rebuild?

I have been trying to bring a Triumph D2 back to life. I replaced the swollen bearing and belt and it is turning smoothly. My new challenge seems to be that the stylus on is touching the record even in the up position. I can't seem to adjust it to do otherwise. What am I missing here? I appreciate any help you can offer.

The carriage on a Triumph is actually independent from the tube and half nut. I suspect you need to loosen the screw and move the carriage away from the mandrel. Let us know if that works.

Ken,

The problem is most likely within the reproducer itself. What reproducer are you using and can you post some photos of it, especially showing the condition you describe?

Thank you both for the insight. I had already tried moving the carriage and that didn't work. JerryVan gave me something I hadn't thought about. When I took a closer look, I noticed that the limit loop screw was a bit loose on the reproducer. Because it was also a bit bent (probably from being loose which the previous owner didn't notice), it caused the stylus to angle down. A bit of straightening and tightening when I just rebuilt the reproducer appears to have solved the problem.

Now on to the next issue. :) How many times can I safety wind this thing? I wound the massive motor all the way down so I could clean things up but I don't want to break a spring winding it back up. Thus far, I can just barely make it through one 4 minute cylinder with my wind. Thanks.

With my Model A, I've managed to get about 90 turns out of it.
