Am I the only one who thinks this is highly figured American walnut, not Circassian?

I thought the same... I used to have a nearly identical one, which several collectors I consulted at the time considered American walnut... although unlike this one, it didn’t have matchbook veneer and the trademark label in the record area didn’t note anything about the finish, whereas this one says “special finish.”

It's been stripped and refinished. Look how open the grain appears. I believe the strip/refinish process bleached out the usual circassian coloration. The interior finishes have far nicer color and look more like circassian.

I don't believe it is Circassian Walnut either. It is relisted and the Circassian reference is missing. I had one similar and the paper label inside said "Special Finish" Didn't even say it was Walnut. I believe it had a $250 sell price on the label. I brought it to Union and sold the thing for 2K.Must have been 13 or 14 years ago. The guy that bought it was convinced it was Circassian. I told him my opinion he was happy and I was happy.

Interesting that the license notice is dated Aug. 1, 1913, but the victor-victrola site lists its serial number with the group produced in 1915. Wonder why there are missing motor board screws and a horn door knob, also no casters? Noticeable wear on the taper tube gold plating. This one has not been well cared for.
