Back in the late 80's or early 90's, a series of eight VHS tapes were produced that includes incredible information and pictures of some of the rarest phonographs that exist. As important as the pictures of the machines, they capture the collections of some of the more knowledgeable people in the field as they walk us through their collections and comment on the the phonographs and the hobby.
I purchased the entire set of 8 tapes when they were first released. It's time to let someone else enjoy them-
VHS- yes-- they're old-school (I still have a player!) VHS players are available for cheap on Ebay, Craigslist, thrift stores, etc. Tapes could likely be transferred to DVD for your own personal use-- but don't run afoul of copyright laws.
The tapes include:
"Talking Furniture" The history of sound reproduction
The Great Collections-
Vol I- Howard Hazelcorn; Vol II- Charley Hummel; Vol III- Allen Koenigsberg;
Vol IV- Fran Merancy; Vol V- Ray Phillips; Vol VI- The Tin-Foil Collection (collector remained anonymous) and Vol VII- John Woodward.
Some of the machines featured include treadle machines, Edison water-power, gold plated Class M; Multiphone, early Berliners, coin-ops, Numerous tin-foils, Talking Dolls, the 1901 Victor line-up and tons more.
These are professionally produced tapes by Mark Ulano-- a grammy winning sound guy. They are very well done.
Complete set of 8 for $100 plus shipping- Media Mail or Priority--your choice. I'd like to sell them as a set-- If after a few days, no one has posted "SOLD", I will sell individual tapes to help folks round out their collection-
Please feel free to ask questions- Thanks for looking.
