Black EDISON Decal on Edison Gem Case?

Some interesting items came into the shop last weekend, among them an Edison GEM case with the Edison script decal in black instead of gold. I don't think I've ever seen that before, but I thought I'd better ask before I relegated it to the "home made decal" category. Were any Edison decals done in black by Edison?? It actually looks kind of cool.

Thanks! Cliff

The only black Edison decal I can think of was on the Army & Navy Phonograph...

I think the black "Edison" and the writing on the lid is stenciled in black on the Army/Navy model. Towards the back on the inside is the typical gold script decal.

Finally had a chance to take a close look at this decal and it had been 'inked' over. I polished most of the ink away and the decal is still there, though a bit worn.

Makes you wonder if it was ink, or if it is build up of oil lamp and wood smoke. For instance La Moille, IL did not have electricity until 1948.
