Hi, I purchased this cylinder cabinet Edison Home and 11 panel cygnet horn a couple weeks back. The 11 panel Cygnet was painted gold so I decided to repaint it black. It was missing the Cygnet adjusting rod and nut as well as the brass half ball. I replace all and decided to hang the horn when the parts came to see how it looked. When I hang it nothing lines up as shown in the pictures. I know for a fact that this was a complete set up of one owner when I bought it. The crane is original and the back mount is original and the same location. It even came with the original TIZ-It connector. Can someone tell me what I am missing as why the horn mount and the crane mount do not line up and will not stay attached. The crane has the alignment pins to keep it at the correct angle/ location. I have to tape the rod/nut to keep it from pulling off the crane with the weight of the horn. Was there another crane for 11 Cygnet horns?? This I know is original to the setup. The only thing that I can figure is that the top portion of the crane has been bent at one time?? Any help is appreciated.

There are definitely at least 2 different Edison Cygnet horn crane variants. And it looks like yours is incorrect for the setup you have. I would consider contacting Ron Sitko (518-371-8549) and discuss with him. Ron sells both size cranes. I realize you have a Home model here but I believe that the Triumph models require a taller lower section of the crane and it's also possible that angled reproducer carriages versus horizontal carriages use different top sections of the crane. Anyway, Ron will be a great help. He will need to know your setup and be sure to tell him that you're using an 11 panel Cygnet versus the more common 10 panel. Also, may we presume that the Cygnet bracket was installed at the factory? Reason I ask is that the positioning of the bracket greatly affects the position of the crane and the horn versus the mandrel and reproducer.

Did the previous owner simply suspend the horn from the top of the crane by simply using only the spring? The adjusting rod would increase the space needed. You probably know a #11 Cygnet was intended for the larger machines like the Triumph and Idealia. The #10 Cygnet was intended for the Fireside, Standard, and Home. If I were in your shoes I would call Ron Sitko. He sells several versions of cranes for Cygnet machines.

Your #11 Cygnet has good value to someone that has a Triumph. Typically a #11 sells for more than the more common #10. You might offer your repainted #11 for a #10 with good original paint. This is just a gently offered suggestion.

In Australia we only got 11 panel cygnets, so there should be no reason you can't use it with a Home.
We did.
They were also used on Firesides and Standards.

Not only were there two different BOTTOM sections of Cygnet cranes, but the first TOP section was designed to use a rod-type suspension rather than the spring suspension you currently have. You have the earlier rod-type suspension TOP section.

I can't tell from your photos, but your BOTTOM section may be "set-back" type meant for horizontally-mounted reproducers. You need the shallower BOTTOM section.

The advice above to call Ron Sitko is good - - he can fix you up.

Hi, Guys. You are all a wealth of knowledge. Taking out the spring and making a loop fixed my problem. I knew this had to work as it came from the the original estate missing only the 2 pieces. They had used it and lost the adjuster and half ball. Thanks much!!!

Don’t/didn’t some of the half ball swivels that are attached to the horn, come with the adjuster stud as one piece on some horns? So, no spring or link would have been used, basically creating what the OP made without using a little piece of wire like he did. He still needs the chrome ball topper for the stud.
