I would appreciate your thought/opinion on this Edison Chalet B-19 model Phonograph. I have been unable to locate information regarding the serial number on the plate, being SM-3888.

What are your thoughts based on the photographs attached? Any information/opinion on whether this is a good example to purchase would be appreciated.

That is not a Chalet, it's a London #1. Frow's book on Edison disc machines gives the following information: It is one of 4 London models. It was initially made in 1923 for export and began selling in the US in 1926. It has a single spring motor and smaller #100 horn so wouldn't sound as nice as ones with bigger horns. However, it'd make a nice addition to a collection, depending on price, since it is uncommon.

A rare bird indeed, at least in the U.S. In many years of collecting, I've only seen two or three. This one looks like a fine example.

The London upright and console machines are both pretty common and frankly, not as well made as other Diamond Disc machines. The tabletop shown here is definitely rare.

There is also a spindle leg version of this style, kind of like the A-100, but according to Frow very very few were made and AFAIK, none are known.

What are your concerns about it? It looks very nice and clean. Depending on the asking price, it may be worth pursuing.
