Knob for Victor’s crank

I just picked up a Victor IV with external horn, and the crank is missing its knob. I checked eBay and nothing is available. I have many wooden knobs from my spare machines, but do not have the pin. Does anyone have a recommend alternative while I wait for a replacement to show up on eBay?

I have an idea that will work, but won't be a "purist" fix.
Find a bolt of the same size as the hole and tap the hole in the crank to match. If you have a drill press, put the bolt in the chuck and using it like a lathe, use a file to size the head and shape it to the correct size to fit whatever knob you plan to use. Run the modified bolt through the handle, place some thread locker or epoxy on the threads and screw it into the crank hole... or permanently "peen" the end to lock it in.
