My New Credenza

Last Saturday a friend sent me an email about a Credenza he found on Craigslist near me. I checked the listing, took a good look at the pictures and sent a message to the seller. She finally got back to me on Monday and we made arrangements for me to come over on Tuesday to see it and most likely pick it up. Well, it turned out to be exactly what I thought it would be. It is a two door Credenza X (electric disc induction motor)and a brass reproducer. The serial# is 700, the 199th one built. It plays extremely well, motor is quiet and the speed regulation is excellent. The brass reproducer sounds great and I won't be rebuilding it. There are a number of issues with the finish, all minor. The only serious problem is the grille cloth for which I hope to find a replacement. Oh, and that's the first style lid decal too.

Congratulations on a great find and a fine sounding machine. The Credenzas I've had over the years have all sounded great with a good reproducer, and yours with a brass one is an extra bonus as is the early serial number. You can sort out the minor finish issues and the grill cloth. I'd be tempted to try to repair the grill cloth (if possible as many collectors much prefer the original ones-but its not always an option).
Nice catch!
Personally, I love the electric motor, I dislike all the winding. Many disagree, but I really like that feature.
Again, Congratulations!
Matt

I'll take an electric turntable over a hand crank one every time, especially if it's going to play lots of records! And those induction disc motors are bullet proof. The universal AC/DC motors can have wow issues.

Congratulations Jim! Happy you found it before me! I can hardly say no to a Credenza!

Very nice! I have 3 4-door Credenzas (at least 2 more than needed according to my wife), but the only piece I have of a 2-door is an empty cabinet. The horn was taken out to make it into some kind of cabinet before I got it, so I’m not even sure why I took it.

Hmm...I don’t think that’s it. I got it for practically nothing about 15 years ago. I think I had the crazy idea that it might serve some useful purpose since the finish was actually in very good condition. Of course, it is still sitting here at least 15 years later.
