Strange Serial Number

A friend of mine bought a VV-IX today and asked for my help working on the motor and reproducer. When I began working on it I noticed it had a strange serial number. It started with a 0. So I checked on the Victor Victrola site which said that there were a handful in 1919 that had 0's as the leading digit in the serial number. It said that these were stamping errors.

Has anyone ever come across one of these? I just thought it was strange as I have never seen a serial # beginning with a 0. Does anyone have any information aside from what the Victor Victrola page mentioned?

Yes, that's the one! :) It's a nice little IX. If I had the money/space I would buy it from him, but can't at this time so he needs to sell it on the Bay.

Apparently the stamping error doesn't carry much of a premium. $157 isn't a bad price for a IX in general (and it's not in bad condition).
