What are you waiting for Nat?!?! Neat machines, these were just discussed in another thread. If I found one that cheap, I'd grab it whether I had the space or not just to play with for awhile!

I'm 500 miles away, at my ranch in Canada; believe me, if I was home in Seattle, this would have anew and loving home!

I'm 1 hour away from it but,then there is the ferry,etc.....It has been on for awhile.I almost contacted the seller last week as I was driving right by it.However,there is no one up here that wanted it and I don't either.Now,if it were a Berliner my tires would still be smoking...

If this was within 200 miles of me, I'd have it home by tomorrow night! I'd use it for trading material or resale if I didn't want to keep it.

I've often hit the road immediately to get a machine. At a Friday night MAPS meeting some years ago I learned there was an 8-12 for sale at an antique shop about 60 miles away. Saturday morning we were up early and on our way. We were at the door when the shop opened. I walked in and said "where's the Victrola?", they pointed and I took it home. Another time I was reading the auction paper late one Friday night and noticed that there was a Credenza at an auction west of Dayton, Ohio the next day. (we lived in the Detroit area.) So, I woke up my wife and informed her that we were going to an auction in the morning. She said "O.K." and we brought my 8-30 home.

A few weeks ago I bought the VTLA in Cape Coral, FL that was discussed here in early Aug. Found out about it at 11 PM, showed it to my wife and she said "Let's go", so we were on the road to cape Coral, about 130 miles away, by 9:30 AM the next day.

My wife has always been very good about things like that and, of course, when she wants something she gets it.

If this is the one I posted about, I'm happy to know somebody was able to get it. 2,000+ miles one way is just too far for me, (especially for a CL item which may not still be there when you arrive)!

Sounds like me with old books! I found a copy of the first edition of Cook's journals for his second voyage a while back, 1777, and was on it in about two nano seconds.

Now if a Monarch with a wood horn would just show up withing driving range...

out of curiosity, why a monarch? because it's an early model? I used to have one and remember only that the motor was pretty loud, and was only two springs (in that sense, I think the III is a much better performer)... now a monarch special or a victor V with an oak horn AND the three-spring motor, that would be worth stumbling across.

This is the one! Thank you Tinkerbell for posting it. It turned out to be an excellent example of an early Victor - built VTLA. According to the Victor Data Book, it was made between February and October of 1907, and by interpolating serial numbers, I would guess it to be from early in the run. I'll post it as a Featured Phonograph when I figure out how to upload pictures.

wow - I wish we saw deals like that in Australia!

I've been known to make 2000km round trips to pick up machines from time to time...just wish they were that cheap!
