Help Needed Identifying This

I found this mixed in with some cylinders I bought. It looks like it could be some type of a music cylinder but I e never seen anything like it. It measures about 4 inches long and 1 ¾ inches in diameter. The inside diameter of the cylinder is about 1 ½ inches. What’s also strange is that there is a smaller diameter ring in the center of the inside. If anyone has any thoughts on this I would love to hear them no matter what you think it is.

No grooves that I can see. Looks like nothing more than a hard rubber sleeve of some sort.

Considering that the interior diameter of the average standard size cylinder tapers from about 1 13/16" to about 1 ¾", and noticing the central ring...
I would say this is some sort of coupling.

No grooves on it and the thing don't fit, you must acquit - it of being a cylinder record that is. Resembles some kind of insulator or something.

Is it a core barrel in a cylinder of a certain size?

My guess is that it is a blank Dictaphone cylinder.
