Help needed! Small washer left over - HMV 102 motor service

I have fully stripped, cleaned and started putting back together my HMV 102 motor. However, I am left with one small washer and have no idea where it is from! It is NOT the washer that goes under the spring barrel and the outer casing as that washer is much larger and I have that one. It really has confused me! Please see photos of washer. Anyone who could tell me where this single washer is supposed to be, it would really help me!

Well... Despite what you have written, it actually looks as one of the washers that have to do with the spring barrel.

If it's one of those soft steel very thin washers... It's maybe for better sliding the spring barrel... It has marks of being used..
I'd bet it goes together with the main thick washer at the spring barrel...
It has a perimeter mark so you could try to see where it matches...

I'd have to agree. Perhaps there should be 2 washers, and I'd say if it fits the shaft that runs through the barrel, that's where it's from, but whether both belong on one end of the shaft or one on either end, I can't say.

Nice to see that you have serviced this motor !
I am almost ashamed to say that I serviced a HMV 102 motor two days ago, and still can't nail what washer this is. That motor is however put back into the HMV 102E already.
Is it a 271D motor, or... ? I don't know if the washers vary in numbers between the different 217 motors, but if you still need an answer to your problem in a day or two, I can check with a 271D motor I have in my repair room during the next two days, a motor that is not fit inside a machine, so it will be easy to check about the washers. My repair room is 30 km away, and I am not there right now.
I am now already working on a Victrola double spring motor..in my bathroom (!), and the motors get mixed up in my head right now...

Thank you for your replies. It sadly really has me confused! Here is a picture of it next to the washer for the end of the spring barrel. Spring barrel washer is the large one on the left and the mystery one is the smaller one on the right. It’s a 271D motor. Just have no idea what to do with it. It also does not fit through the shank that goes through the spring barrel. Is it part of the winding mechanism? (See last photo).

Perhaps the turntable spindle?
Wherever it belongs, it should fit where it goes properly, so it may be a case of trying everywhere possible, or as nostalgia suggests, wait until he pulls down his motor to look for a possible answer.

Could it be placed at the narrow end of the winding worm, the one which goes against a hole on a fixed stanchion in the motor? I remember the motor no59 of the 101 has a thin washer like that just in this place. It prevents the worm threads scratching on the stanchion surface. The pressure there is heavy when you're winding up the motor

It may possibly fit there. Do you mean to be placed on the inside of the stanchion for the winding worm or the outside? I can’t remember there being one there but it may have been so covered in grease that I didn’t notice it until cleaning.

there is no washer like that on a 271-D motor it is superfluous probably dropped in when the motor was opened at some previous time in its life
