Some sort of Vertical attachment

I am not sure what this is. It is in a nice black box that came with an early VE-XVI. It looks like it plays some type of lateral(I knew vertical, old man brain, lol) records. Of which I have none. The question is whether this plays DD or Pathé' verticals?? Funny is has no marking on the box or the attachment. Stylus looks too large for DDs.

It's a "hill & dale" attachment, for playing DD's, not a lateral attachment.

Thanks Jerry, I knew was hill and dale, lol. Don't know why my fingers typed lateral.
I didn't know if it was for DD or Pathé's. Now I do. Maybe there is a DD I'd want to add to my collection. I used to have one I used to prop up the end of a box of lateral 78's. I think I even got rid of that one.

Check that stylus. If it has a pointy non-translucent tip, it’s for diamond discs, but you still shouldn’t use it to play any that you care about. If it has a rounded clear ball tip, it’s for Pathé vertical discs, and will probably work ok if the tonearm bearings are very well lubricated.
From the condition of the screw heads, someone has been “working” on it, and not very carefully, so check the stylus before use.
(As an aside, isn’t it funny how some folks disdain DDs? It reminds me of the old mac vs peecee arguments, or maybe even vhs vs betamax.)

This is the vertical reproducer for a Bush & Lane DUOVOX. The styli are threaded, and can be switched out between diamond for DD and ball sapphire for Pathé.

Isn't it a vicsona and not a Duovox, as with the duovox isn't the stylus bar the other direction?

Yes. This is a Vicsonia reproducer. I have a couple of them in my collection.
