Does anyone know anything about this Milton Soundbox. It's extremely light at 65g. All aluminium except for the stylus bar.

I agree but I can't see any mechanism to allow for it. It does have an unusually large diaphragm fixing screw but that's about it.
It came with this unusual portable. The tonearm is also very light. Unfortunately the portables case is junk. I rebuilt and tried the soundbox on another gramophone but the soundbox is so light it literally bounces about on the record. And yes, most other soundboxes are at least twice the weight.

I had dozens of these in the 1980s they were all finished in almost psychedelic colours , red , green , blue , orange and yellow clear lacquers , they were brilliant on Decca Trench machines and other portables which wouldn't play and couldn't be made to play with their proper soundboxes whatever was done to the mechanism but these worked well and looked more the part when given a black spray finish ! These machines are still out there somewhere I can't remember where they came from But they played well and didn't BOUNCE ABOUT

Hello all, this "Milton" soundbox reminds me very much of a "later "GOLDRING" reproducer...?

Thanks Mike for the info. It was bouncing about when played on a gooseneck tonearm but works well on others. That's where the compliance comes from. I can't play it on the portable as the fiber gear on the motor is gubbed.
Do you know if they were all marked Milton and did they have any other markings?. Thanks.

It certainly looks like a Goldring soundbox. I wonder if they were as light as this one?
