Just heard my 1936 Bartok String Quartet no. 2 on Victor!

I'm lucky to own Bartok's String Quartet no. 2 Victor album M-320 played by the Budapest String Quartet. This album came out in 1936 and the sound surpasses the sound of my digital CD copy of the Bartok quartets. 78s can sound very quiet as far as surface noise if they are in great condition! I can tell later composers like Bernard Hermann were influenced by Bartok's dark moody sound.

What a coincidence--just this evening I played Victor set 286, Bartok's *first* quartet played by the Pro Arte Qtt. I got that set 30 years ago--and tonight was the first time I've played it.

Yes, I have that one too. How did you like it? Was it in good condition? That is all I have of the Bartok quartets on 78s. They are hard to find! I'd like find some of Walter Piston and Roy Harris. I have Piston's String Quartet No. 1 and it's great!
