The customer brought his Decca trench portable to me today. He noticed the herzog cabinet when he walked into the garage and started telling me about a cabinet he has. He says it’s a Herzog cabinet... but I am not certain. It’s definitely one of the most ornate/gorgeous record cabinets I’ve seen.

What do you guys think?

It looks more like a sheet music cabinet to me, but I could be mistaken. :monkey:

There's no doubt it's gorgeous but I believe it's a gorgeous sheet music cabinet. But I'd be delighted to be wrong.

Been wrong before...just ask DeeDee. :)

I too suspect that it's a sheet music cabinet. One I would like to own.

I think you guys are correct.., it’s a sheet music cabinet.

Either way it’s still awesome

Except that the upper pockets fit a 10" record - little or no sheet music would be that size surely?

Pretty confident that this is a sheet music cabinet. Later sheet music was 9" x 12". Also, most sheet music cabinets have a rear "fence" or some sort of moulding on the top in the rear as this one does versus almost every record cabinet (I've seen anyway) which have no "fence" or moulding at the rear on top.

That is a Herzog sheet music cabinet. I had one like it without the ornate carving and same back board and it had the original Herzog label. This cabinet came in several different inside layouts - this one, for sheet music, and a different inside insert for cylinders with no back board. Someone on the Forum posted a picture of their cabinet with the cylinder configuration several years ago...

I found the Herzog patent for this music cabinet and thought it might be of interest...
