Edison 1898 square top Standard - Model C reproducer?

Hi everyone,

I’ve got an automatic reproducer in my early model two clip Edison square top. I was wondering if a Model C reproducer would fit - will it? I’ve got a late 1890s brass mandrel Edison Home with a Model C and it sound amazing. Wondering if a C reproducer will work in the square top Standard.

Thanks!

It will fit, but there is no notch at the top to center it. Early C reproducers had an adjusting arm, like on the Automatic, which allowed them to be more securely positioned. That version of the C would work better than the more conventional later ones.

Thank you! My automatic on my square top standard just doesn’t sound as good as I’d like, I think a C might do the trick. I’ll look fir an early one! Suggestions most welcome!

It is called a winged C. They come up on E bay for $ 125 to $ 175 depending on condition. I use one on my square box at times. It is definitely louder than the automatic Tom
