Could someone provide a Victor v motor photograph? I am trying to assemble the governor. The speed control is confusing me. Thanks

USlakeside, I am sorry that my picture does not show the governor as well as it could. Unfortunately, this is the only picture of my Victor V motor I have and the motor itself is out for a full servicing. I hope this helps.

You have to partially disassemble the governor assembly and fit the swivel over it. Then reassemble the governor, and snap the 2 tabs on the swivel into the small holes in the linkage once the governor is mounted in its bearings.

Any one have advise on doing the final adjustment on the governor? I have a Victor V and the motor runs too fast even when set at the lowest setting on the speed regulator know on the motor board. I know I need to have the pads hit the governor sooner then they currently do. The leather pads are on a yoke attached to a spring mechanism attached to a rod and held by a set screw. How tight is that spring? If I loosen the set screw what am I in for?

Also if you ever do have to replace the leather any advise on how to get it so they both touch the governor

Thanks for the quick replies! The one strange thing, as you can see from my photo, is there is already some kind of leather padded regulating thing on the rod where the "yolk" should go. Is it possible that this is a variation of a speed regulator? The parts in the second photo came with the machine, but not attached. You definitely can't have both on the rod at the same time.

It sounds like you may need to move the governor & bearings along to bring the governor disc closer to the leathers...basically jump a tooth (or maybe 2) where the worm & gear meet.
Always allow the motor to fully run down before making any governor/motor adjustments though.

These machines are built so that the governor and shaft are in a fixed location and adjustments are made in other ways.
The screw which holds the yoke assembly to the speed control rod is the coarse speed adjustment. If the speed range is too high, the yoke assembly, and therefore the leather pads, may be moved toward the governor flywheel which will limit top speed. If the motor is running too slowly you would move the pads away from the governor flywheel which will give a greater top speed. As Shane mentioned, be sure the motor is completely run down before doing any work on it. And, be sure the screw is tight when you are done.

The fine speed adjustment is made by means of a screw at the bottom of the speed control. The part on which the control rod rides can be moved up or down by turning this screw. This allows you to set the speed control so it will show the speed of the turntable.

Here are some motor pictures. I hope they help.
In the first picture you can see the screw that holds the governor assembly to the worm shaft. If this is loosened, you can change the lateral position of the governor on the shaft. Be sure to tighten this screw snugly when you are done. If I recall correctly, the collar position is not adjustable on later models. The next 2 pictures show details of the leather pads and their mounting assembly. The fourth picture shows the underside of the speed control. The brass spiral moves up and down on the speed knob shaft and adjusts the speed indicator to match the turntable speed. It is spring loaded and moves up and down as you turn the screw in the center. You can set the indicator needle to 78 and use this adjustment to set the motor speed to match.
