Here’s something I found interesting. It’s an early “transitional standard” #47902

Looking closely at past threads George responded with his dates on Standards I’d put this one was manufactured in January 1902.

You nailed the date, Andy, but that would be when the machine left the factory (wholesale sales data); not necessarily the date of manufacture. Of course, with a fast-selling machine like the Standard, and the usual high production around Christmas, there could have been virtually no time spent in inventory, but we should not assume that. The data I access is sales data.

I'm curious as to why you refer to this as a "transitional" Standard.

Because I once saw someone call Standards with the new style cases but still using the clip style carriage from the previous 4-latch version a “transitional standard.” monkey see monkey do I guess. 🤔

That makes sense, Andy. I've regarded them as simply early New Style Standards, but the old-style carriage certainly qualifies as transitional.

I think the case is a little different too. I will dig up my research and see if I can list the different attributes. I may have one too if you want some pictures. I looked at the pictures on E bay and it has the case with the corner pieces like the home case . I Believe those were only on the transitional one. Tom
