I like the display with the lid upside down & the records in it. Very unique way to do that -- nicer than an old shoebox or something.
$1500 seems steep but that's a nicely preserved original machine & they aren't getting any easier to find like that. Firesides are great. Still, seems like it should be about an $800-$1100 machine. Granted I am not an appraiser but that's what it seems like would be more in line with show prices.

I tend to agree with VEF's assessment. I can remember when Firesides in excellent condition had asking prices in the $1200-1400 range, but that was over 20 years ago. Prices have softened since then. Seller does not appear to be a knowledgeable collector, as he places a 1905 date on the machine and refers to the cylinders as "scrolls." He claims he paid $3K for it. If so, he paid WAY too much.

I thought $1500 was steep as well... but to think he paid $3k for it?
I am not getting it... but I hope someone here can reach a deal with the seller!

This Fireside has a speed control. Firesides didn't have a speed control. Something is wrong. Everything else seems correct except for this.

Perhaps the speed control was a dealer addition to make use of some wax cylinders. It'd be pretty easy to modify one to have external speed controls.

My fireside is the same with an external speed control, I believe it was a dealer modification

I am glad to hear of the other opinions on this thread regarding value. I passed on a Fireside similar to this marketplace link way out "in the country" at a flea market style antique shop about a year ago.... The price was $900 or so....
In the instance of the machine I passed on, it still puzzles me how non-collectors can be "spot on" with their asking prices with early external horn machines. But, the rest of the antique shop is full of quality primitive furniture, glassware, and other collectibles that are nowhere near market value, under, over, or otherwise.
Oh well, a conversation for another thread....
