This machine came in today for restoration, illegible return address label, no paperwork inside...sigh. No labels on the machine and the horn is metal , Victrola No. 2 reproducer. What is it? An English Victor ?

That trademark badge looks very similar to the Gramophone & Typewriter Ltd. trademark, Cherub on a record.

There are also several record labels with a similar design.

What a great thing to find! Perhaps you can’t return it with no sender given! This is a Deluxe II from around 1907-10. It is the overseas version of the top of the range G&T New Melba. The difference being that the festoons on the New Melba are wood and on the Deluxe II they are ormolu. On your pictures they appear ormolu rather than painted wood? The Recording Angel plaque mounted on the motor board suggests this was sold by the German branch of the family, Deutsche Grammophon.

This machine is worth serious money, and it's owner should have taken more care with the paperwork when sending it to you.

As you cannot contact the owner, my advice would be to wait until they contact you, and meanwhile do no work on the machine. There have been cases where machines have been left with restorers and never been collected or paid for.

The owner contacted us and apologized for not enclosing information, but we have it now. It’s been in the family for generations. Thanks for your help, he was delighted to learn about it and stated he also has the matching pedestal!

Gramophone Co. De Luxe catalogue June 1908 lists it as The New Melba Spanish cataloque January 1909 of the Cia. Francesa del Gramophone lists it as modelo Monarch 13E de Gran Lujo (no mention of the Melba name)
