You come across this Credenza. It was clearly modded in the 1940s. What do you do with it?

If you like it, buy it. The SX-28 is one of the most desirable pre-war Hallicrafters, and the setup is kind of cool - and certainly unique.

Neatly done. Since it still has a tone arm, I wonder what's left of the horn? Can't be much... The electric speaker seems to be located right in the center, where the orthophonic horn has its center ridge/fold.

I'd restore the electronics & consider it a piece of historic ingenuity.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Love those old conversions when done by craftsman. I would make one mod though,
since the SX-28 has a phono input I'd change the acoustic reproducer to an electric pickup from an Electrola.
I have a Victor 18 that has a 1949 Philco TV/phono transplanted into it.

Love it! And I especially am a fan of pre-war Hallicrafters radios. This is a great setup that I would buy if the price was right.

Finish the mod by adding an elbow coming out the back and an upright extension to hold a large outside horn... best of both worlds...

It is first year Credenza, so it should have a very desirable reproducer. The doors and the grill have been cut down, so bringing it back to its original configuration would require a doner machine. So, to answer your question, I would part it out.
