They've been advertising a new season opener scheduled for next Monday 9PM Eastern time featuring a segment where they visit the former home of a famous turn of the century opera singer. The quick flash photos they keep showing include what looks like an Edison diamond disc advertsing postcard of the singer. I haven't been able to identify the singer becuase the picture is so brief but it may be worth checking out.

That immediately bring to mind Lillian Nordica and the famous Nordica homestead museum in Farmington, Maine. But I don't think she ever signed up with Edison to do anything. :D

Then again, maybe they're going to the home of Anna Case.

I can't stand the suspense any longer.

I really like that show since we are all pickers of some sort with the hobby we pursue. However, on one of their commericals, there is a pile of stuff to pick in the background with what looks like a crapophone right on the top... Shame Shame.

I've never seen it. But maybe I'll catch the segment on You Toob if it shows up there.

Yes! I did notice that! I was watching American pickers, when they showed an advertisement at the end of the show for their nest episode for an opera singers house and I saw what looked like a sign with a Victrola and a lady standing next to it but figured out it was a Diamond disc player. I wonder if they're going to pick it!

I watched Monday night's "American Pickers". The home they visited was once owned by Marie Rappold, who did indeed sing for a time with the Metropolitan Opera, and recorded frequently for Edison. I thought it was cool because I own several of her recordings on Diamond Disc (5 sides). Some of her personal belongings were still in the house, including a trunk with her initials, a photo with her and Enrico Caruso, and advertising stuff. No records, although an off-brand cabinet talking machine in poor condition was in the barn. The pickers passed on that. It looks like the couple who recently bought the house have a lot of work ahead of them.

Ah, Marie Rappold, the English born American soprano. Check.

They did buy a Brunswick 117 elsewhere earlier in the same episode, though. They had it appraised at $250.
