Put in a few words...what is it exactly about this green + red !! HMV 102?
I have never seen such a machine before, but as we know, I was away from the hobby for 30 years before returning a couple of years ago, so I of course have missed a lot....
Repainted..or ?

Looks repainted to me, there is paint on the back hinge.

Yes, when checking the photos more, it must be repainted. Better still leave the post as a general warning, what NOT to do with a gramophone.

It was not black. It has chromed hinges, handle clasps and trims which the black version never had.

It started out red but turned green with a spray gun and a bad idea!

I bet the red faded very badly, prompting an earlier owner to test his not inconsiderable painting skills out with some (appropriate for HMV) green paint.

If the previous owner felt compelled to repaint the machine, he should have matched the original red.
I wonder what colour turntable felt lies beneath the record.

There's something strange under the lid. The red nipper seems original, flush applied to the lid. But the later (?) green painting seems to be applied to another layer, so the nipper area is depressed from the rest of the lid. It is recessed, instead of being flush... What's that? Did they apply a cover to the inner lid area, leaving the original nipper square recessed?

Inigo, this was actually my first observation and why I posted the photos. I started to think it could be a special edition or something because of this layer difference around the Nipper trademark. I have asked the seller for a photo of the turntable...

There's nothing strange about it! The photo shows the centre of the raised square panel fixed in the lid. I've just checked 10 different 102s, and they all have the same sunken area round the HMV transfer. The only ones that don't are the 102E and H, which have no raised panel in the lid.
