Gang,

Picture shows the main shaft with a end adjustment and bearing. How do you adjust the parts ? Minimum Drag ?

The collar at the end of the feedscrew is fixed. I believe you adjust the mandrel end play with the pivot on the end. By the way, why does the reproducer carriage rod have a spiral section on it? I have never seen that.

I see that the pot metal bushing has been replaced. Maybe you can adjust the end play by moving the replacement brass bushing.

The "spiral" is a spring that slides on the shaft.

Ken,
Yes the pot metal bearing was replaced. I did not know that you could move it.

JerryVan,
Yes that is a spring that stops the carriage from going to far.

Also, do you just put oil on the shaft on both sides of the bearing to lubricate it ? There is a hole on the front of the bearing casting with a screw in it. Do I put oil in by removing the screw ? That would put oil into the middle of the bearing.

The screw in front of the bearing is for locking the bearing in place. You would put oil on both sides of the bearing. I use a very light sewing machine oil.

On any of the replacement bronze bearings I've installed, there has always been a hole for lubricating the bearing. The hole ought to be vertical and to the right of the casting so oil can be applied to the shaft.

Just an observation.

The replacement bearing for the original pot metal one does not appear to have a hole for oil. About 1\8 inch is visible toward the mandrel.

I'd say your are right on the money as to the amount of bearing showing. My home is set up that way too and it runs flawlessly. Come to think of it, the bearing I installed had a dimple that engaged the setscrew so there was no doubt about where it should be positioned.
