My new VE8-30X

Picked up a Victrola VE8-30X from a member here after being bit by the bug with my Consolette acquisition. I LOVE this thing. I also love these needles though I don't know where I got them from, they were in a tin I had lying around. The sound is so good and my wife actually really likes this one!

Please excuse the open top in this video, I know it sounds better with the lid down but to me it's like driving a new electric car and not being able to stop looking at the diagram on the dash that shows you when the car is using power as opposed to transferring breaking power back to the batteries. I just love to watch it all work.

I repaired the hydraulic lid supports by cleaning and re-oiling everything followed by "fluffing" the leather. and oiling that as well. I even replaced the harness to the motor underneath the motor table. It was shedding insulation like our short-haired cat sheds hair.

I may look to get a replacement rear bracket at some point as this one has suffered the effects of being made of pot metal however the repair that was done to it is actually really good. I could just fill that broken bit at the top with some epoxy/bondo and then paint to color. Right now I'm just enjoying listening to it!

Victor Credenza rules! I had to jump through hoops and hurdles to get mine. Mine still has the 1927 wiring too but I use a modern plug and I have never had a problem so far with it. BUT I would love it even more if it had safe modern wiring, which I’m not brave enough to work with.

Very nice! Mine, serial number which is about only 700 before yours I picked up only a couple months ago. It needs the top refinished but otherwise is in great condition. And like you, I rebuilt the lid support.

Great machine! I have had a spring motor 8-30 since the late '90s and I recently bought a 2 door Credenza with the induction motor. This one also has the original wiring and since I don't like to leave things like that plugged in when I'm not around, I bought a switched socket. This is a device that plugs into the wall outlet and has one outlet which is controlled by a switch on the side and has a pilot light so you can easily see when it is on.

I actually use a remote control switch on my jukebox. We bought them to turn the candles on and off that we light the windows with at Christmas time. Then one day I realized what a pain it was to keep reaching behind the jukebox to turn it on. Voila! The jukebox is on 1 and the Credenza is on 2 (it's a 3 button switch).

My friend has switches that he can control with Alexa. He'll say "Alexa, turn on the pinball machines". It's quite a site. He can also turn them on individually. Maybe someday I'll be that cool
