The power of pot

Up to know I always thought that as pot metal deteriorated, it crumbled and fell to pieces, and where it was used for bearings, it expanded a bit and caused siezure. What I never thought is that as it deteriorated it developed any strength? Until I saw this yesterday. Its the standard mandrel off a Pathé 4 concert machine (later style). Pathé obviously saved money over the version 1 by using pot metal.

The inter mandrel is a fairly solid affair yet the expanding pot metal has done its damage and destroyed the Inter mandrel for any further use.

Okay, I have to admit... when I read the title of this post, I thought this thread was going in an entirely different direction!

Yes, I am a victim of having grown up in the sixties. :rose:

Yes, well I was trying to get a bounce off playing with the words.

The rest of the machine is cleaning up quite well. Pity about the dig through the logo - probably caused by the concert size slip on adaptor.
