I was wondering if anyone has an update on volume II of Jim Walsh's phonograph Artists by Tim Gracyk?

I don't know, but looking some of his articles in the otherwise boring Hobbies magazine shows he really knew how to write. I'd like to get a copy if they are still available.

Also Tim Gracyk's website (he's in the forum) has similar articles, inspired in Walsh ones. Google it...

Was there a compilation book of the writings of this gentleman?

I don't know... but Gracyk always refers to his articles in Hobbies, so maybe there's no compilation... Up to now, the only time I've seen so many references to Jim Walsh articles all gathered in a single place its in own Tim's book about early American recording pioneers and artists.

Others have pointed out occasional errors or biases in Walsh's writing. But he was The Guy there in the 1940's and 50's conducting interviews with pioneer record industry people who were still alive and sort of forgotten. I'd buy a bound complete collection of Walsh's articles anyday. I've only been able to read them going through back issues of Hobbies. Looked for them online with no success... Though not lately.

Is this book hard to get ahold of? I guess only a limited amount of copies were made? Wasn’t there also a gentleman by the name of Quinten around the same time? Did he do any writings or books?

Quentin Riggs wrote some articles and at least one book about early recording artists. Google his obit: Quentin T. Riggs.
