Hi gang,
I just bought a very nice table top Columbia grafonola. It says model d2
My few questions are how do I know the year made on mine and 2 how do I set that auto stop thing,? Under the tone arm it looks like a little curved knife I guess.
This is my first Columbia, I mostly have victrola's and Brunswick. This is my 11th machine
Works very smooth, the guy I got it from replaced all three springs in it but never did the reproducer I will do that tis week, finish is very nice, best I ever seen on a original finish. Got hat 200 records and a nice rca nipper dog statue. 16" high for 100 bucks...
I couldn't pass that up especially since he replaced the springs in it 2 years ago.
So any help on dating thus or how I can know would be great. It's not like victrola's that have serial numbers to help, unless tis one does on the motor some place I don't know about.

From Robert Baumbach's "Columbia Phonograph Companion Volume II" The Columbia Disc Graphophone and the Grafonola: page 152

Introduced 1918 / original price $60 / available in mahogany or golden, fumed ,or English oak. This machine was an updated version of the earlier Favorite and model 50.

This model was recommended for use in schools when combined with the Grafonola Cart. The special cart (oak only) was made available only to schools for $25.

It's been some time but I had a lead on the oak cart. It looks something like a tea cart and it would add a great deal of interest to the Grafonola. I think the asking price was $300. Jerry Blais
