It looks very well made. Early and with what looks like the beginnings of a wooden tonearm ?

I wonder what it is ? It looks very nice.

The arm isn't wooden. Its brass with a loss of its original plating. I doubt anyone will ever find out what the make is or what the arm and soundbox should be though, let alone find one.

Thats a pity because its a stunning piece. If I had the space I'd buy it in vain.

Very interesting indeed.

You know what ...................... sometimes, just sometimes, the auction houses keep parts like detachable tonearms and reproducers locked up safely somewhere in case someone steals it. So, I wonder ............................ could they have the parts elsewhere .......................

If you get the answer I'd be interested to know! I won't ask the auctioneers myself because I just get so jaded dealing with numpties all the time. I rarely, if ever, receive satisfactory condition reports, photos, or conclusive answers to my questions.

Okay, it's a deal, I will 'phone them early tomorrow afternoon and report back - I am collecting some 78's tomorrow morning.

Even if they don't have the parts - £ 3 sounds reasonable.

Happy days.

Whatever that "no-name" machine is, it has a beautiful cabinet and someone should grab it...

The brass "tonearm" part does not look right to me, since it is angled upwards and is too large to be an actual tonearm. If it were near me in the US, I would gladly buy it, since it appears that all the other parts are there. Then I would find a good, high quality period tonearm and install it in place of that brass piece. This would make a wonderful machine, especially since it has inlays, reeded columns and ball and claw feet, which are seldom found. This was definitely a top of the line, high end machine made by an exceptional cabinet company...

SOMEBODY GO FOR IT... and then let us know.

Very interesting indeed. Thanks Curt A.

I am sadly a bit like Steve, in reality, my home has little room left. Also, I couldn't really collect this and smuggle it in un-noticed (It would be very heavy too I guess) - the gramophone police would certainly (and actually probably quite rightly) tell me off. :D I can just about get away with smaller items these days. The door bell rings, I leap up and quickly squirrel things away while looking extremely sheepish and vaguely mumbling some pathetic explanation and trying to change the subject.

Anyway, that brass 'thing' has me wondering and as you say, I REALLY hope that someone on here buys it and we hear more. It may sell for very little indeed maybe.

Okay, so I'm off to get my new 78 record collection now and will telephone them later.

Typical. it's about as far east from me as you can get without falling off the edge of the map.

Sadly, I discovered that they closed at mid-day - so 'no dice'.
