AMBEROLA III Question...

I've had the thing for several years and I just noticed it does not have a drip pan? I cannot see any holes where the drip pan would have been screwed on, like on the 1A or 1B. It appears to have never had one. Did Edison dispense with the drip pan for the III or???

I figure that since the Amberola III used the same works as the Opera that it would have no drip pan. To my knowledge neither had it.

Hmmm.... but the 1B, III and Opera share the same works and the 1B always has a drip pan. :monkey:

My Amberola III has no drip pan and I think I know why. The Amberola III has a metal horn which would not be affected by oil or grease. The Amberolas A and B had fiber horns which could be damaged by oil so they should have the drip pan to catch foreign material. What do you think? Jerry Blais

Jerry,
I think you are dead on it. That is the only logical reason I can see.

Jerry,

I think your answer is correct. That fiber horn would be vulnerable to oil and that was probably the reason for the drip pan on the 1A & 1B but not the III. :monkey:
