Thoughts from my Time Machine

Sitting in my time machine on a 100+ year old chair listening to The Charleston recorded on an Edison Diamond Disc record being played on a 100 year old Brunswick while getting the stink-eye from Nipper. No Delorian needed. Oh well, back to the 21st, Great Scott! It is nice while it lasts.

I will never understand why this hobby/obsession isn’t more popular. We are very fortunate to be able to appreciate our virtual time travel. Now if I could only figure out how to correctly orient the pictures.

That's a particularly nice Brunswick! That's why I love this hobby (other antiques and arts of the past)--transports you to another time and place. A quick escape from today's toil and problems. Not to say that there were no problems back in simpler times....they just weren't ours!

That looks like a really nice room to sit and listen to records in! There really isn't a better way to come home from a long day at work (or suffering at school  ), than cranking up a phonograph and slumping down into a chair. It's really amazing how fast I lose track of time though :? . I might get home at 3:30, crank a few records up and all of a sudden its 5:00!

Cheers,

David

When I play an old record, I sometimes just close my eyes and imagine what it was like about 100 years ago as the music plays. Thanks for sharing the photo.

Yes, that’s definitely a possibility in a house from 120 years ago, even if some of the furnishings are not quite right for the period.

Very nice room. Very tasteful. Maybe I should have titled it, show us your time machine. The room that I posted the picture from is new. It is my music room annex, which used to be part of my home machine shop, which I downsized when I retired. There are only 17 phonographs, 1 giant Nipper, 2 Barrister bookcases, 2 antique chairs and a side by side in this room. I can quit any time I want.

Thanks, it is a beautiful piece of carving. I love the dolphins at the feet, but can’t really compete with the carvings on the chair beside it.
