It's occured to me that when I was admiring Orthosean's new addition to his collection (which I am rather jealous of) that he is the only phono friend that I have on facebook. Most of my other friends with similar hobbies are mainly record collectors.

I only have one phono friend on facebook as well. I don't use facebook much at all though. Maybe this thread will add to my phono friend count!

LOL Jonathan! I have quite a few...maybe 10 or 15 and lots of record collectors.
I plan on spotlighting my new purchase when I'm finished cleaning it up, which is nearly complete, as you know!
It's got a great story and history behind it!
Sean
PS...anyone who has FB can always add me, send me a PM...

Does a "phono friend" have to be on facebook? We have a really good group of collectors in the Northwest. I am fortunate to have many phono friends in OTAPS (Oregon Territory Antique Phonograph Society). Outside of OTAPS I have many friends made over the years by going to Union and the CAPS shows. I remember my first few times at Union. Things seemed to move so fast and it was intimidating. Now I go and just enjoy myself. I bring good Oregon beer to share with anyone that enjoys it and others bring their local favorite. I ALWAYS go home with a treasure. I enjoy driving to Union. It's about a six thousand mile round trip with a few side excursions and it's always fun to stop and see other collectors on the route. It's so much fun. I already have a couple of pre-purchased items to be picked up in Nebraska and Iowa next June on my way to Union. I can't wait! Thanks, Jerry

I have phono friends that I know face to face and I also have a number of people I have met through forums such as this and also You Tube and facebook whom I feel know well enough to count as friends. As I also have an interest in vintage electronics and radio I also know people through that too - and having just moved I am hoping to meet face to face with people that until know I have only known through the magic of the internet.

How many phono friends do you have?
That's easy: NONE!
Or is that simply no friends at all, I can't remember! LOL!
Most 'collectors' in this field (read: nearly all) tend to be record collectors rather than machine collectors. In the UK it's getting fewer by the day. It seems everyone is "Doing A Frank" !

I don't have many phono friends at all. On a trip to Rochester, I was fortunate enough to meet Wyatt (aka MicaMonster). Wyatt had already downsized his collection but I got to see a few nice machines including an Edison cylinder coin-op and the Edison C-2 Radio / phono combo.
On my way back to New Jersey I made a stop at OrthoSean's house. Sean was very nice to a newbie collector and took the time to show me his machines and give me some extra records. Sean's collection absolutely blew me away... phonographs everywhere... of course the VE-10-50 was pretty cool, but he had a 78 RPM record jukebox was was my favorite. I'm sure his collection has changed greatly since my vist.
I also bought a machine from Dan Brown of the Edison board once, who is also very nice and was happy to show me his collection. (jealous of his all 3 Edison needle portables!) :-p
Fortunately I live literally 15 minutes from the Wayne, NJ MME show, so I have met some people over the years... unfortunately only for a few minutes at a time.
I am grateful and thankful that technology has brought us together on forums like this.

I have lots of phono friends but none on Facebook. But that's simply because I'm not on FB, and never will be.

I know no one in person who is also a collector. Im 26, maybe that has something to do with it... I don't know anyone around my age whos interested in the hobby. My friends are curious about it, and are more impressed by offensive records, like on I have titled Black Diamond.

Ditto! Unfortunately, I don't get to spend much time with phono friends - - it's usually at a show or the rare occasions when someone visits me. When traveling in western New York, let me know. I'm about a half hour south of Rochester, and I'm pleased to welcome collectors.
