Another project machine as I found it. Asking $425...the high price is due to the dealer decal on the side of the machine.

Edison Home Phonograph Model B, but case still has the banner from the Model A so puts this one I think at early 1906.

The case has an interesting dealer decal fro Holmes Music Co, NY on the left end.

2/4 minute gearing.

No Crank or Reproducer. I gave the governor a push and it spun for a couple minutes so assuming the spring is good. Motor is missing the lower belt pulley.

Restored this would be quite the interesting piece given the dealer's decal.

Prefer local pickup. I"m in the Souderton, PA area (just south of Quakertown) or can meet during the week (during business hours) at Trevose or NE Phila (near the Nat'l guard armory at the the corner of Southhampton Rd and Rt 1.

No disrespect intended, but if the value/price of this machine hinges on the dealer decal, how would you suggest saving it, since the finish is in need of restoring or at minimum a thorough cleaning? Refinishing or cleaning will most likely destroy that label... the Edison label can be replaced easily.

Easy, don't restore it. Even though it is "just a home" unless an original finish is really destroyed by water damage or such on any phonograph, why not let the machines age be a part of its story? A simple cleaning and light wax for surface protection is all that this needs.

Are we talking about the same machine in the above pictures?

Agreed. Too often we seem to think that we must put our "mark" on an object. There seems to be a lot of finish left on this cabinet. It should clean up fairly well I think.

Some thought this didn't need refinishing... Everyone has their own threshold for refinishing.

The original point to my post was that this machine is a $75-$100 dollar machine in its current condition. The dealer decal is not worth $350 extra and even if someone thought so, how would they go about cleaning the cabinet without destroying the decal? Any cleaner, GOOP, GOJO, soap and water will likely remove the gilding from the decal, since it is already flaking, leaving (at best) the silver base under the lettering. The upper works definitely need restoring and afterward will look out of place in a weathered cabinet.

Then, add the cost of a reproducer, crank, horn and crane, which pushes it to $1,000, or more (not restored) and not knowing what motor problems might exist... There is nobody on this forum that would add this to their collection, as is. The question is not "should this machine be restored", but rather "is it worth it" starting with what is shown?

Phonograph is SOLD.
