Hello people of the internet, my name is Mia (pronounced as Myah). I recently bought an HMV 101 from an antique store and I'm trying to figure out how I can read the serial and figure out how old my particular machine is. I saw a video by Techmoan (https://youtu.be/AYn7aZZBMRA?t=312) about wind-up gramophones and in that video, he managed to read the serial number to figure out where and when it was produced. Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it! :D

Welcome to the forum Mia.
The style of the ID plate on your machine suggests that it is a 101G introduced in 1929.

Roger.

Welcome, Mia.
The color of the machine is brown or dark red? It is not the typical black one...

It's a red one I'm pretty sure, although I sometimes doubt it since it looks brown-ish sometimes...

If you're bit by the Gramophone bug, you could try to collect them all! Some are very difficult to find. The most common is the black rexine one.

Sorry about the late reply (and also to possibly disappoint you a little) I currently don't have a need for multiple 101s, nor do I think I'd go out searching for them, since I'm not a collector. Thanks for the help in identifying the age of my machine though!
