This item is featured in another thread, but I really think this Kammer & Reinhardt toy gramophone deserves more attention in the main forum. It even has the box and most of the records. Just - what a sight.

With a presale estimate of 500 - 1000 pounds the auctioneer must be happy as well as the consignor.
How about the added fees (commission, sales tax, value added tax) of 35.94%, you would think that has to figure into someone's bid.

8200GBP plus the 35.94% equals over 15KUSD. It ends tomorrow so we'll see where it lands.

Hammer was 29,000 BPS plus the VAT and Premium of 35.94% converts to $53,696!!!! The 18 five inch Berliner records certainly helped drive the price here. But I am impressed. It sold to someone in the room. Congrats to the new owner!

Such an incredible rarity to have survived so intact! You won't see another one like that come up anytime soon.

That was an incredibly rare time capsule from the dawn of gramophone history with this early K&R Berliner and records - still in the family of the original owners. Certainly this would be the centerpiece of any collection. A big congratulations to the winner. If you bid in person (from the floor or by phone) directly with the auction house as the winning bidder did, the buyer’s premium/ VAT was 25%. Making the final bid £36.25K or approx $49.3K. The auction house would not allow online bidding through their website for this auction.

Sorry to read you didn't get it either Mike. I too would have loved to of had that on display in my collection.
I find the two serial numbers on the two boxes very interesting. The one that recently sold here in the US #7564 and this latest example #5459. Both including 3 records (As stated on the labels).
