What does the L bracket do on an Edison Home Model D?

I recently purchased a fixer-upper Home Model D and it is missing the L bracket.on the collar by the Mandrel bearing. What does this do? Should I look at a replacement. I’m guessing it might be hard to find, so what might be an alternative? Beer can?
Pic attached. Thanks!

Contact George Vollema or other parts suppliers; the Home is not a rare phonograph and I am certain that someone can scavenge the piece you need.

The L bracket reaches down and into the groove in the end of the lead screw and prevents it from wandering side-to-side. The correct part is what you want here. Save the beer cans for recycling and enjoy a well running phongraph.

That’s a clip, not a bracket.
