I suspect the seller is hoping for someone to "make an offer" somewhere between reality and their fantasy price. A lot of sellers do this these days.

Yep. I offered $100 for a Victrola Alhambra missing its reproducer--but seller wanted $800 having come down from $1200. Pass--don't want to put $500 into building a $350 machine; it is not that the Alhambra is a bad Victrola but that it is going to be hard to sell that cabinet style if I ever need it to change hands.

Still can't get doors for my RE-45 as the person nearby with a scrap RE-45 cabinet wants to sell it intact, even though it is gutted.

I have seen this scenario more and more lately.... on ebay, craigslist, and facebook, too. I don't know what is going on with some of these sellers. I went and looked at a pretty common Victrola a few weeks ago but the seller was so high on his price I couldn't even make an offer - I just excused myself after looking and left. It was kind of awkward

Been a member for a year or less. Zero feedback. Looks like a scam to me.

Zero feedback, and although a member for over a year, no buy/sell activity. The dead giveaway is the ridiculous shipping fee, $22.65, which to me indicates a seller who has no intention of shipping at all.

My mahogany 8-12 was fully functional when I found it, but the pot metal reproducer required replacement. The reproducer I bought came from a orthophonic portable and in the end I was all in for $200. Considering how great it works , I consider it a pretty good deal. I saw similar crazy prices on etzy which is why I don't shop on that site.

There are well know phonograph sellers that ask crazy prices on here and eBay alike. I personally won’t buy from them regardless how bad I need a part!
The ridiculous high price “best offer” scam has been around since the beginning of time.
